Collection Title: Home Run Threads: Baseball Jerseys
Collector Statement:
"The first game-used jersey that I purchased was from the Clinton LumberKings in their team store. The jersey was worn by Outfielder, Brandon Boggs, in 2005. Little did I know that over time I would amass over 90 game-worn jerseys from teams in Minor League Baseball and assorted college wood bat summer leagues.
A unique jersey in my collection is from the now defunct Florida Fire Frogs (High-A affiliate of the Atlanta Braves). This jersey was an unofficial Copa de la Diversión jersey, the “Coquis” (Coquí is a common name for several species of small frogs native to Puerto Rico). This jersey was worn in 2018 by 2nd baseman, Kevin Joshephina, and purchased from the team store. After the 2019 season, the Fire Frogs were evicted from their ballpark and consequently folded in 2020 when Major League Baseball eliminated 42 teams from the Minor League Baseball system. In August 2018, I attended a Fire Frogs game, and they wore Coquis jerseys that night. When the team sold the jerseys after the season, I bought the #1 jersey as I attended one Fire Frogs game.
This is another Copa jersey from the Lansing Lugnuts (Locos) in the Midwest League. This jersey was worn by Outfielder, Reggie Pruitt, Jr. in 2019. The logo is based on the Potoo bird, an indigenous bird to Central and South America. I absolutely love the silly expression on the bird logo, so when the team sold off the jerseys at the end of that season, I had to get one. I selected jersey #5, as Reggie played in most, if not all of the many Lugnuts games I attended in the 2019 season.
Another favorite came from the 2019 season. This Cedar Rapids Kernels jersey was worn on “Peanuts Night” and worn by Outfielder, Jacob Pearson. The jerseys were sold in a silent auction during the game. I’ve loved Peanuts cartoons since my childhood and was determined to land a winning bid.
This jersey is the quintessential look for the Cedar Rapids Kernels. In August on 2022, the Kernels held “Busch Light Night” featuring these jerseys. I bid high on this beauty, worn by Outfielder, Dylan Neuse. It’s so Iowa!
Back in 2006, the Kernels played a throwback game as the Cedar Rapids Bunnies. This jersey is part of an all-flannel uniform worn by Infielder, Larry Infante.
This 2023 “Redband” jersey of the Spokane Indians of the Northwest League was worn by Outfielder, Braiden Ward. These jerseys serve to promote Salish, the native language of the Spokane Tribe, and promote awareness of the Redband Trout fish native to the area. Proceeds from the sale of this jersey, from a team sponsored on-line auction, supported efforts to restore the habitat of the Redband Trout. I attended a Spokane Indians game in 2023 on Redband Night. I placed the winning bid for jersey #1 to reflect attendance of that one Indians game.
For three years, 2004-2007, the Quad Cities River Bandits were named Swing of the Quad Cities. The logo leaned into 1920’s era jazz music and prominently featured a saxophone, an eighth note, and bass clef. This jersey, purchased from the team store was worn by First Baseman, C. J. Smith
This theme night jersey from the Burlington Bees was for Mental Health Awareness in July 2023. I had the high big in a silent auction for this jersey worn by Infielder, Drew Gaskins.
This tropical jersey from the Illinois Valley Pistol Shrimp was worn to celebrate Beach Night in July 2023. While the Pistol Shrimp’s hometown of Peru, Illinois, is far away from any beach, I liked the tropical vibe and bright orange colors. This jersey was worn by Pitcher, David Andolina.
This hot pink jersey, from the Waterloo Bucks, was won by Pitcher, Daniel Colwell, in a game during the 2019 season. The jerseys were sold during an in-game silent auction with proceeds supporting mammograms for women in the Waterloo Cedar Falls area. I wanted to win jersey #28 in memory of a friend from my graduate school days in Colorado. Diana Lee died from breast cancer earlier that year."
