Celebrate Alumni Day with a visit to your Museum of Natural History! During a special portion of the day, from 10:00 a.m. - noon, drop-in for a "Rusty Celebration" honoring one of campus’s most beloved (and largest) icons: Rusty the Giant Sloth (our museum mascot and the alternative UI icon to Herky the Hawk).

Learn how this towering Ice Age giant was created and installed, and hear about the research happening right here at Iowa connected to one of the most complete specimens in the world of Rusty's kind, Megalonyx jeffersonii. Museum staff will share behind-the-scenes stories, recent discoveries, and the ongoing scientific work that keeps Rusty relevant far beyond the galleries. Stop by, say hello, and pick up a limited Rusty pin while supplies last. And don't miss the chance to take your obligatory Rusty selfie! Post it and tag us to be entered to win a special prize.

Our galleries will be open all day (10:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.) for self-guided exploration, too. Drop in anytime to reconnect with favorite exhibits, discover what’s new, and experience the natural and cultural history that continues to shape the University of Iowa.
